8/9 The Fuzzy Mountains of San Rafael

We woke up in Sacramento after very few hours of sleep. Sean, Dave, Selena and I (Joe here) spent the night tenting across the road from the venue, doing our best to obscure the tent from the view of the road. For those of us with sleeping bags it was a refreshing albeit far too short four and a half hour night’s rest despite the sprinkler which turned on at about 3 AM. For lack of space in the tent, Karl and Matt trooped it out in a Wal-Mart parking lot, making friends with the security man.

We left Sac Town and arrived at the venue in San Rafael by 9:30 AM (a new record for us being early haha) after a pleasant drive through a mess of delightfully fuzzy mountains (they’re so cool!). With the entire day to spend in San Rafael, Sean, Matt and I left to climb one of these fuzzy mountains while Selena and Dave went over to the shopping center and Karl found a park and ride to leave the truck and trailer.

YAAAHHHH!!!!!
wowzerz
seriously awesome place up there

Eventually we all met up at the Starbucks and chilled for a real long time. Matt and I became members of the SafeWay there and scored some awesome food for pretty cheap. After we’d sat long enough me, matt, karl, and sean headed over to the Kohl’s and Sears because that’s just a fun thing to do. I ogled at coffee makers while Matt procured a nice new pair of sunglasses! We ended up watching the most intense and then heartwarming part of the Disney movie “Up” being displayed on a Sears TV. I’ll speak for myself and say that I was quite captivated.

.99 for each of those giant jalepeno cheddar rolls!
suchagood movie!
don't mess with the wolf pack
or you'll end up in a body bag
Fast forward to 4 PM where we met up with Matt’s godmother Marcia who happens to be one of the most amazing people on the face of the planet! We chatted about the tour at a park and then headed back to town for some truly superior Thai food. Soon enough it was 8PM and we headed over to the venue. Things were pretty laid back at the Riff Gallery. Everyone was hanging out outside and having a good time. By 9:30 or so the music got going and it was intense inside. There were some pretty sick acts, lots of crust and powerviolence type stuff. We played second to last and had a great time even though we stuck out a little bit stylistically from the other bands that night. All in all it was a good show and we met lots of cool bay area people!

a random metalhead took this picture for us!
After the show we left San Rafael for the wooded boonies of Inverness Park where Marcia is located. Everyone was dog tired and ready for bed by the time we got there, especially after the extremely windy and bumpy roads we had to traverse. We were very pleasantly surprised when we opened the door to see that there were sleeping mats laid out for everyone (thanks, Marcia!). We each claimed one and passed right out into lala land.
