8/13 - The Second and Shittier Raining Blood cover

On Monday morning, we woke up at Chris (from Spectral Tombs)'s house. We slept in a bit, and his roommate Aaron prepared us some kickass breakfast. He called it fridge cleanout, but it was fucking awesome! Zucchini, beets, tomato, and duck eggs. He also brewed up some tea that was delicious.

After breakfast and chilling at Chris and Aaron's place, we piled into the tourmobile and swung downtown. Right in town was a coffeeshop called Barista (lol Portland). Acclaimed as the best cup of coffee in Portland, we felt compelled to check it out. Our new friend Mark, the drummer of Spectral Tombs worked there. We set up on the patio and he hooked us up with some free coffee. Thanks Mark! It was an extremely smooth cup of coffee. We enjoyed it immensely.

We swung up to Seattle in the afternoon. We were having too much fun in Portland and didn't leave early enough to beat the traffic but it was alright. We got to the gig in good time.

I can't read this

The lineup included Viking Funeral, Blood and Thunder, and Autolatry. The venue was totally a metal place. It's the only place in Seattle that has a metal showcase on mondays. It was called the 2 Bit Saloon. A little place with nice ambiance, a nice high stage and good ambiance. Definitely a good place to play, (although next time, we're going to try to get to the High Line).

Before the gig, Seamus and Joby did some guitar maintenance. Joby's Gibson SG was in need of a string change and a re-intonation. Seamus is a really good guitar tech, so if you ever need to fix your shit, throw him some dollars.

Meanwhile, I got bored because the venue was 21+ and since we're so fucking young, I couldn't enter the venue. Without any guitar work to do, or anything at all to do really, I ventured down the road in search of wifi and a cup of tea. I ended up at a place called Top Pot hand forged donuts. They are the coolest people there! I ordered a cup of tea and then got talking to the employees about metal and touring. Out of the blue, he just handed me a box of a dozen donuts! They were legitimately the best donuts I've ever eaten.

Let's wait outside for the entire night because that's a fun thing to do

Viking Funeral started off the show with their melodic thrashy metal. Pretty good shit, kept the crowd interested for the next dudes! Next up was a band called Blood & Thunder. They have a cool sound of synth-infused death metal. Very cool shit. They had the best crowd of the night. We were surprised that so many people would come out on a monday night. We were under the impression that we would close out the night after Blood & Thunder. However, the promoter booked another band to replace Unhailoed (who dropped last minute). The replacement band was a 2 piece drunk thrash cover act. They said that they'd only play for a few songs, and that it's just a joke to have some fun. We thought it'd be cool. Understandably, everyone in the crowd went to the bar as soon as they played, just to wait out a few covers for the next band to come on. However, these dudes wouldn't stop playing. They played a 45 minute set of assorted sloppy slayer and testament, and they absolutely cleared the place out!  a majority of the crowd left, and they were somehow oblivious to their doing. Untasteful, but I guess you have to deal with that shit sometimes. A few members from bands stuck around, bought some shit, and we ended up having a really fun time. So it wasn't all bad.

goodnight seattle
After the show, we went to a friend we met at the show's house. Andy, a very awesome local, let us crash with him. He's got a beautiful house and he makes some killer homebrew! Cheers to Andy, the 2 Bit, and of course to Top Pot Donuts. Stay tuned tomorrow for a writeup of SPOOOOOOKAAAAAAANE, Washington.
