7/21 - Greenville, SC @ The Radio Room

The repairs that we had to do on our trailer, while they went smoothly, still took a bit longer than we expected and cost a little more than expected. But in typical Autolatry fashion, we took all that in stride and made it happen so we could be on our A-game that night. Karl, being the American badass that he is, ended up rolling around under the truck, showering himself in fiery sparks, and thus dirtying up his last pair of semi-clean clothes. Much love to Karl for spending most of the night covered in metal shavings, sweat stains, and dust.

Obligatory.

After our leisurely time at Waking Life Coffee in Asheville (and a quick sink shower for our drummer), we pressed on to Greenville, SC. We really took our time, since it was a meager 63 mile journey to our destination. The venue was called The Radio Room; a cool bar that has a good local reputation. As we got into Greenville, we noticed that there were masses of retail shopping centers around the general vicinity. Since we had some extra time, we elected to scope it out. We happened upon a Big Lots about half a mile from the venue, where found some killer deals. We cleaned up in the clearance section, and then feasted in the venue parking lot. It was badass.

Sharing the stage with us last night was Black Hand Throne (http://www.facebook.com/blackhandthrone1), a classic-sounding southern groove metal band. Their sound reminded me of the slower and heavier moments of Pantera and Down. The show started very late, so although they didn't stick around for long, their set was enjoyable. We played second on the bill, and were at first a bit apprehensive that we wouldn't be well received because none of the fans in the venue had come out for a nu-metal band. To our pleasant surprise though, people enjoyed our music and we had a good night. After our set, we hung around the bar and chit chatted with the friendly bartenders who put the show on, poking some silly jokes for the headlining band.

It has become more and more evident to us that we are living the black metal nomad lifestyle. After the show, we had nowhere to go, so we ended up trucking down the interstate to look for a rest area to pitch a tent. We happened upon one 20 miles away, where Matt and Joe pitched a tent. They received a rude awakening that night by some very friendly police officers warning them not to pitch tents in rest areas. After a brief and nice exchange of words, they got permission to finish the night out in the tent and beat it early in the morning. South Carolina has been a nice place to Autolatry thus, but soon we'll be onto the next. One last show in Columbus, and then we're off to Florida for some real shenanigans!
