7/19 - Winston-Salem, NC - You win some, you sale some

The drive from Rock Hill, SC to Winston-Salem is only just over 100 miles, so we had a little time to kill between our departure and arrival at last night’s venue, the Black Lodge.  The great thing about doing a lot of shows in the Carolinas is the drives are short, so that means less money spent on gas and being able to take our time with everything.  On our way out of town, we stopped at a Save A Lot and picked up supplies for making burritos! A burrito-picnic was just what we all needed.

After only a couple hours of driving we reached downtown Winston-Salem. Still with some time to kill before 9pm load-in, we headed to what looked like a local indie coffee hotspot called Krankies Coffee.  This place was incredibly badass! Amazing coffee, good vibes and a cool location. If you are ever in Winston-Salem, definitely grab a cup of their house blended coffee or an Italian cream soda!

The Black Lodge is an unassuming single-room building tucked away next to an overpass.  It’s really a great location for underground shows of this nature!

awesome.

This show was interesting in that it featured only two bands - Autolatry and Alignak.  This ended up being very cool, as Alignak’s style seemed to gel awesomely with ours, and we were both able to play full sets.  Alignak (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Alignak/156361691094896) hails from Greensboro, NC, just 30 minutes from Winston-Salem.  They play a sick blend of groove-oriented blackened death metal, and put on an entertaining live show! On top of the composition, the creative drum-work really stuck out to me, making Alignak one of the most fun bands we’ve had the opportunity to play with.

Autolatry’s set went extremely well again last night!  With the way the stage was set up, it left a lot of room for Joe, Sean, Karl, and I to walk around and move about the crowd on the floor. It was a hell of a lot of fun, and we received a great reception.
We had an awesome time in Winston-Salem, and North Carolina in general has treated us extremely kindly!  Let’s offer our extreme gratitude to Daniel and Rob of Alignak, who hosted us at their house in Greensboro last night! You guys are fucking awesome! Thank you to Michael who organized and promoted the show, and all those who came out and had a good time with us! I’m writing this from the truck on the way to Asheville, NC, where tonight we will be playing The Get Down!  We have heard a lot about this place so I’m sure it will be a badass time. Read all about it tomorrow!
