7/23 - Jacksonville, FL at Shantytown "All Inn a Days Work"

slumbering bandito beauty

Today marked the beginning of the second leg of the tour as we finally burst through the Carolinas and entered Florida. The daybegan bright and early so as not to miss our free (basically right?) continental breakfast at the Days Inn that we needed to crash at the night before. Breakfast ends at 9 so you bet we were down there by 7:30 AM to savor/gorge ourselves on the delicious eggs, sausage, biscuits n' gravy, doughnuts, etc. as well as some of the wateriest coffee I've ever had. This is Joe here, by the way.

that's the spirit!
Check out time was noon so at ten Matt and I left the guys in the hotel room in search of a Big Lots. We never did find that Big Lots, but we did find an enchanting and straight up weird store called Ollie's. We cashed out on the clearance shelf with pounds upon pounds of dirt cheap honey mustard pretzels, fiber one bars, instant coffee, Iron Girl bars (whatever they're damn tasty!), and a twelve banger of energy shots for $1.99. While all of this food had expiration dates in June, that's just bullshit anyway. If it goes down with out coming back up, it's good for you, as all touring bands should know.

bawww
We didn't get a chance for a swim and I still didn't shower but we set out for Jacksonville with high spirits (as well as several water bottles full of cranberry juice and the eight packets of instant oatmeal that I procured from the breakfast table). Pretty boring scenery on the drive but we made it by six or so.

With roughly six hours before we went on, the barmaid at the Shantytown graciously let us in with our burrito makings to chow down out back. Burritos will never get old. Never.

At around 9:45 we got the unfortunate news that Never Baptized dropped off the bill so it'd be just us and the kickass, kindhearted, Jacksonville death-metallers, Capracide. I wish we had some decent pictures of inside the venue but it's a sweet little place with a tiny, tiny stage which could only fit matt's kit and Seamus's bass rig. The room got crowded and we played a great set with surprisingly crisp sound considering the space.

when life gives you fifty free loaves of Jimmy John's bread, you make burritos?

Capracide!

After us, Capracide tore shit up with their unique brand of groovy tech-death. A tight as hell band as well as a bunch of awesome dudes. After they played, Mark (guitars) furnished our entire band with free Capracide shirts, sympathizing with of our plight in the lack of non-repugnant clothing department. We can't say how appreciative we are of that! Check these guys out on bandcamp and facebook. The whole EP "Theodicy" is up for free download on their bandcamp!  http://capracide.bandcamp.com/album/theodicy                    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Capracide/107842402578513
